On 30 November, the International Campaign for Tibet, in collaboration with the Tibetan Community in Belgium, will be hosting a film screening of the Tibetan documentary Leaving Fear Behind!
The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the movie’s director and former political prisoner Dhondup Wangchen, who will be in Belgium as part of a European advocacy tour to raise awareness about China’s gross human rights violations in Tibet in the context of the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Beijing next year.
𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧? Leaving Fear Behind (in Tibetan, Jigdrel) is a heroic film shot by two Tibetans inside Tibet, Dhondup Wangchen and Golog Jigme, who in 2008 traveled throughout Tibet on a motorcycle to interview ordinary Tibetans about their views on the Dalai Lama, China, and the Beijing Olympic Games. Filming concluded in early March 2008, on the eve of the eruption of unprecedented mass Tibetan protests across the Tibetan plateau. The footage was smuggled out of Tibet under extraordinary circumstances, and resulted in the detention of the filmmakers. The film provides a glimpse into the hearts and minds of the Tibetan people and their longstanding resentment of Chinese policies in Tibet, and is a must watch (or rewatch) ahead of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics!
