The fourth edition of Tibet Film Days opened last Sunday with a sold-out premiere of Dalai Lama – My Religion is Kindness at Pathé Tuschinski in Amsterdam. The screening brought together a full audience to reflect on the Dalai Lama’s more than five decades of visits to the Netherlands and the lasting impact of his message of compassion and non-violence.
The film visibly moved members of the audience, followed by meaningful conversations and questions during the panel discussion. Caroline Nevejan, who is also featured in the documentary and served as Chief Science Officer of the Municipality of Amsterdam from 2017 to 2025, joined the discussion alongside filmmaker Alexander Oey and Dutch filmmaker Babeth Mondini VanLoo.
Among the topics discussed was the future succession of the Dalai Lama and concerns surrounding attempts by the Chinese government to influence the process. The question of succession remains closely connected to the future of Tibetan religious and cultural identity. ICT Europe continues to engage with political representatives and policymakers on these issues, raising awareness of China’s interference in Tibetan religious affairs and advocating for the right of Tibetans to determine their own religious leadership.
The Amsterdam premiere marked the beginning of this year’s Tibet Film Days, a joint initiative of ICT Europe and the Buddhist Film Festival Europe (BFFE). The documentary will continue to screen in The Hague, Utrecht, Groningen and Nijmegen in the coming weeks. Tickets are available here.
