Tibet Film Days 2026 in September to feature special documentary about the Dalai Lama

On Sunday 13 September, Tibet Film Days 2026 will open with a special film screening at Pathé Tuschinski Amsterdam. The opening evening is organised by ICT Europe in cooperation with the Buddhist Film Festival Europe (BFFE).

During this festive opening, we will screen the documentary My Religion is Kindness – The Dalai Lama in the Netherlands, a moving portrait of the special bond between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Netherlands.

Directed by Babeth Mondini VanLoo, the film takes viewers on a journey through more than fifty years of the Dalai Lama’s visits to the Netherlands. Featuring unique archival footage, personal encounters and compelling stories, the documentary shows how his message of compassion and universal responsibility has touched generations of people. Actor and ICT Chairman Richard Gere also reflects on the Dalai Lama’s lasting influence and his commitment to Tibet.

At a time when the world is confronted with war and polarisation, this documentary invites us to reflect. The Dalai Lama’s message that lasting change begins with inner peace, compassion and responsibility towards one another is more relevant than ever. The film shows how these values can bring people together and offer hope for the future.

The screening will be followed by an in-depth panel discussion with filmmaker Babeth Mondini VanLoo and Caroline Nevejan, Chief Science Officer of the City of Amsterdam (2017-2025). Together, they will discuss the documentary and the enduring significance of the Dalai Lama and his message. The audience will also have the opportunity to ask questions.

The Amsterdam screening will mark the launch of the autumn edition of Tibet Film Days 2026, a joint initiative of ICT Europe and the BFFE this year. In the weeks that follow, we also hope to screen the documentary in other cities across the Netherlands. We are currently exploring possibilities in, among others, The Hague, Groningen, Utrecht, Nijmegen and Maastricht. More information will follow soon.
